This page summarizes the goals, activities, programs, and publications of the Association of Clinical Scientists, and describes the benefits of membership. The Association encourages its members to conduct clinical research, present papers, organize seminars, visit each others laboratories, improve their clinical and laboratory skills, expand their knowledge, and publish their findings. Membership in the Association is granted to physicians and other doctoral scientists whose training, experience, publications, and activities show expertise in clinical science, without discrimination on the basis of age, race, gender, religion, or nationality. Any clinical scientist who endorses the Associations goals and wishes to participate in its activities is welcome to join. Please complete the Membership Nomination Form and send it to the Associations office. The Secretary-Treasurer can help you locate a sponsor.

History
|
|---|
The Association was formed in 1949 by a group of physicians and scientists from the various fields of laboratory medicine. The group was initally called the "Clinical Science Club." During its early years, the group held informal meetings and helped to organize workshops and seminars in the United States, Great Britain, and Puerto Rico. The membership and activities of the organization gradually expanded, so the members decided to become incorporated as the "Association of Clinical Scientists." In 1956, the Association received a charter from the State of Pennsylvania as a non-profit scientific and educational corporation.

Members
|
|---|
The 400 members of the Association include pathologists, clinical chemists, molecular and cell biologists, microbiologists, immunologists, hematologists, cytogeneticists, toxicologists, pharmacokineticists, clinicians, and oncologists who are experts in the applications of laboratory methods for elucidation, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases.
 |
Meetings
|
|---|
The Association has an annual scientific meeting, usually held in May, that includes a seminar on a timely topic in clinical science, and platform sessions that feature scientific papers presented by members and invited guests, as well as visits to clinical and research laboratories. International symposia are held in collaboration with scientific groups in other countries.
 |
Publications
|
|---|
The Associations journal, Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science, was founded in 1971. The contents of this publication include review articles and research papers that encompass the broad field of laboratory diagnosis, as well as advances in clinical science and medicine. The Annals is published in print and online. The Association also issues a newsletter, the Clinical Science Trumpet, containing announcements and news about members.

Benefits
|
|---|
The Association strongly supports the career development of its members. Annual awards include the Young Clinical Scientist Award, the Diploma of Honor, and the Clinical Scientist of the Year Award. By its meetings, workshops, publications, and professional interactions, the Association fosters scientific inquiry, education, and collegiality. Good fellowship and camaraderie characterize its activities.
The Association provides an opportunity for specialists to remain abreast of developments in areas of medicine ancillary to their speciality. For anatomic and clinical pathologists, the Association provides coverage of new methods and concepts pertinent to clinical diagnosis. Personal contacts among the Associations members provide valuable assistance regarding employment, academic appointments, and promotion.
Members may order a handsomely engrossed membership diploma. The Associations meetings provide CME credits and offer cultural as well as scientific exchanges. A Musicale and Art Exhibit featuring members and guests of the Association is held during each meeting. The conviviality of the Association is enhanced by receptions and dinners. The Auxiliary of the Association ensures that spouses are welcome and enjoy varied activities during the Associations meetings.
